How to Restore MPGs

How to Restore MPGsDon't you wish your vehicle would go further on a single tank of gas? Well by ensuring you stay up with routine maintenance it is not impossible to get more bang for your buck at the gas pump. There are many services vehicles require, and all too often people put them off or never even complete them. The following auto maintenances are relatively easy and inexpensive, but will do wonders for your vehicle's fuel efficiency.

Fresh Air Filter

If your car's air filter becomes clogged it will prevent the proper air fuel mixture from being created. What will happen is the vehicle will end up burning excess gas since the car can not take in enough oxygen. This is a major waste of fuel and it can cause additional problems for your engine.

New Spark Plugs

The spark plugs are what ignite the air/fuel mixture in the engine's combustion chamber. After many years on the road the spark plug will become dirty or corroded. This means that they can misfire, which results in a very rough running motor and a massive decrease in your car's miles per gallon.

Fuel Injection Cleaning

If the fuel injection unit becomes dirtied it will prevent the motor from being able to operate as designed. What will happen is that contaminants in the fuel system will make their way inside the engine and be burnt with the fuel and and air. This greatly reduces engine power and it will reduce MPGs.

Properly Inflate your Tires

Tires that are underinflated take more engine power to turn. You can find your tire's PSI (pounds per square inch) rating on the inside of your driver's door or the side of the tires. Nearly any gas station should have an air machine and PSI gauge to properly inflate your tires. Underinflated tires reduce fuel efficiency up to 25 percent or more.

Factory Scheduled Maintenance

In order to keep your engine running correctly always keep up with all scheduled auto maintenance. This includes oil changes! Delaying oil changes will cause major problems for the engine, but fresh oil keeps everything lubricated and restores MPGs.
